Neat Things I've Read Lately:
Baptisms & Christenings -
as Substitute Birth Records

DearREADERS,
Although off topic for the PAF (Personal Ancestral File) genealogy software e-mail list, you sometimes pick up worthwhile tidbits such as this one from a snowbird friend. Its just another good reason to subscribe to genealogy e-mail lists at www.rootsweb.com !

Subject: [PAF-4] Re: Baptism

"The subject of Baptismal dates has been discussed in depth, but please let me throw this in the hopper. I have talked with several Irish historians and have been told that as the general rule, Irish babies are baptized within ten days of their birth. This explains why baptismal records are important to researchers of Irish ancestors; it takes the place of the rarely kept birth records."

On a personal note -- to Chuck!  We're looking forward to your return to the sunny climes!  Most threats of hurricanes have passed, and we'll have our first PAF meeting of the season on Saturday, October 7th!
