Alta Vista's Translating Service

DearREADERS,
Two years ago, we helped DENZILKLIP@aol.com  prepare for his genealogy research trip to Germany. Indeed, we got a first-hand report of his July 4th, 2000 appointment at Gau-Algesheim Archives.

Recently his trip was reported in Main-Rheiner, an online resource written in German. Since I haven't progressed beyond tape #1 in my Berlitz German course, I am thankful to the BABEL FISH translating service provided by www.altavista.com

The web version of this column shows the screen shot of the input screen. Babel Fish needs either the TEXT or the WEB ADDRESS you wish to have translated. One must also specify the language, in this case from GERMAN TO ENGLISH.

While some of the exact words are lost in translation, the gist of the article comes through just fine:

"Always in consciousness to go on the ways of its ancestors. 1848 had left Frederick Klippel waiter Hilbersheim. " I cannot understand that. Nevertheless it took thereby twenty days seasickness on itself!" From Germany and the German the American got a completely new picture. " I knew your country nevertheless only from old war films. Today I am proud on my origin, that was in former times different." Now it wants to also begin to learn the language."

We are TRULY becoming a global community!
