AOL will not support Mailing Lists -
Part One
DearREADERS,
Thank-you for your emails about the recent announcement that America Online
will no longer support incoming mailing list postings. You can still make a
post, but you won't be able to read the posting or any responses via your AOL
email. I will send out several subsequent emails describing alternatives, so you
can continue using mailing lists (such as those at RootsWeb) to exchange
genealogy information with other researchers.
BASICALLY, this means you AOL members and will have
to think of an alternative email service. My next email will offer some
suggestions.
UPDATE:
DO NOT CONFUSE THIS PROBLEM WITH THE FACT THAT ROOTSWEB INCOMING MAILING LIST
SERVERS ARE CURRENTLY DOWN. See: http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/
"Mail Lists: 2005-02-06
Our inbound mail server is down. This means ALL email bound for RootsWeb address
(mailing lists and staff) and USGenWeb addresses will (should) be held at your
ISP awaiting our server reappearing. Our system administrators are working on
the server, however, it is taking its time recovering through disk checks. No
accurate time of reappearance (we are talking hours, not days). We apologize for
the inconvenience. Est. downtime: 1 day(s)
