DearMYRTLE,
Giving an example of the information needed by a RAOGK volunteer is one of the
most helpful things you can do for the genealogical community. We often get very
vague requests which require several emails back and forth just to figure out
what is needed. I'd like to also mention that there is some information for
those requesting queries on the page before you get to the page to find a
volunteer. That information is very important and following the directions makes
our volunteering a great deal easier. It is also very important to read the
description of the specific location covered by the volunteer and the specific
services offered so that you are not asking the wrong person for what you seek.
By the way, in your sample letter, I think you meant to say a "photo of the
grave of my ancestor", not "photo of my ancestor". That made me
smile.

DearMYRTLE,
Thanks for the advice when dealing with RAOGK volunteers--especially about being
specific. I am a volunteer in Lapeer and Saginaw Counties of MI. It is important
that those sending in requests remember that we do limit our requests to one or
two items. If more info is found when I am onsite, I will not ignore it, of
course, and include it when I send the results to my "customers." I
have been doing this for the past three years and have met some very nice people
along the way. Thank you for getting out the "good word" about this
valuable genealogical source!
