GREAT EXAMPLES - using the web to archive your genealogy:
-- Mary Love's Home Page
http://www.tyler.net/mlb/

-- William Pearce Grave
http://www.tyler.net/mlb/default.htm/wpearce.html

BRAVO to Mary Love <marylove@tyler.net> who wrote: "I finally decided that I wasn't going to get that book written - this is my way to publish and I like the fact that I can correct any information that is wrong and I can also add new information that I find - keep it current and up to date. I am always putting up new info so it is well to check back often. This is also a way to share my information with my relatives and not have to do a lot of copying and sending - and then wonder who I didn't update on developments."

VOLUSIA CGC's PAF 4.0 HOW-TO PAGES

Another BRAVO goes out to Doug Little <douglittle@worldnet.att.net> and the VOLUSIA COMPUTER GENEALOGY GROUP for their PAF 4.0 Help Pages reported in Dick Eastman's newsletter 12 Oct 1999
http://ancestry.com/columns/eastman/eastnew.htm#8

Dick says "Since the program is available at no cost as a download from a Web site, the user does not receive a printed manual. To be sure, the built-in help files are excellent, but the Volusia Computer Genealogy Group thought that many users needed a bit more information. That organization has now created a Web site containing "How To" pages that supplement the program's help files."

To view the PAF 4.0 "How To" pages, look at:

HISTORY OF MINING IN NOVA SCOTIA
www.mininghistory.ns.ca
Webmaster Gary W Ellerbrok gary.ellerbrok@ns.sympatico.ca is compiling an impressive historical site, which I think county historians should make note of and emulate with comparable info for their localities. The first page loads readily, owing to few graphics, and the content is varied, and growing. Of particular note:

-- Men And Methods Of The Early Days Of Mining In Cape Breton, by C.M. Odell, May 1922.
-- Piers and Loading Facilities (dating around 1917)
-- Nova Scotia Department of Mines Annual Reports 1871, 1872

POLISH MILITARY
The Order of the Virtuti Militari and its Cavaliers 1792-1992
http://www.virtuti.com/order/

Prof. Dr. Zdzislaw P. Wesolowski, Captain, United States Air Force Reserve, Retired states "The Polish order of the VIRTUTI MILITARI was established 200 years ago by King Stanislaw August Poniatowski as the highest military decoration for gallantry the Polish nation bestows upon it's soldiers for acts of heroism above and beyond the call of duty. The VIRTUTI MILITARI is equivalent to the American MEDAL OF HONOR or the British VICTORIA CROSS."

Prof. Wesolowski is the former president of the Polish American Congress of Florida and currently a Professor at Florida Memorial College in Miami. He was a member of the Virtuti Militari BICENTENNIAL COMMITTEE and is a retired US AIR FORCE officer.

Although this page is advertising the sale of his book, you may search the site for an ancestor's name. You may also order a "confirmation" including a colored photo of the award given to your ancestor. Very interesting, since Polish records seem to be so hard to get!

QUAKER CALENDAR - OLD STYLE & NEW STYLE
http://www.everton.com/usa/GENEALOG/GENEALOG.QUAKERC1

Although very generic in style, this web page of information by Barbara R. Tysinger <btysingr@med.unc.edu> assists researchers in overcoming the challenge of the definition of "the first month" under Julian and Gregorian calendars.

C&O CANAL NATIONAL PARK
http://www.nps.gov/choh/co_visit.htm

Learn the history of the C&O Canal: George Washington's Dream, Building the Canal, The Canal arrives at Cumberland, Building the Great Falls Fish Ladders, The Great Falls Tavern, Interviews with surviving boaters, The Spong Family, Water for Washington, DC - The Aqueduct, How Justice Douglas figured in, Historic photos, 1996 floods.

What's the C&O Canal about today? Up-to-date information on: Services, Recreation and camping, Volunteer and internship information, Current events: The Canaller, Flood restoration, Project partners, Maps, Towpath conditions, Newsroom, Weather and River Information.

ERIE CANAL MUSEUM
http://www.cnyric.org/cnyregion/canal/

"The Erie Canal Museum is located in Syracuse, NY, on the site of the original canal that once passed through the heart of the city of Syracuse.

The museum features many exhibits of canal era activities, including the construction and the influence that the canal has had on the economic and cultural development of upstate New York."

Although this web site is small, it provides a few photos from 1873 and 1907, which helps us visualize the Erie Canal migration experience for some of our ancestors.
