PAF VIDEO: Adding Names in Pedigree View & Inserting Special Characters.
The Board of the Manasota PAF Users Group and the members who attended the November meeting heartily endorse the PAF Training Video provided by www.123genealogy.com . This month we're going to look at the "Adding Names in Pedigree View & Inserting Special Characters" option demonstrated by narrator Steve Lemmon in PERSONAL ANCESTRAL FILE: Getting Started. Transcribing Calendars & Journals
From DearMYRTLE's Message Board

"I am looking for a software program that would allow
me to transcribe some old calendars/journals that my grandmother has kept. I
would like a monthly calendar that I could type in her daily notes. My Print
Shop software does not let me modify it enough to be able to get a big enough
area in each day to fit in my grandmother's daily notes. And she has a number of
these yearly calendars, so I would prefer transcribing them onto monthly
calendars, instead of weekly calendars. Any suggestions will be greatly
appreciated."
Dear Brenda,
Why not create a book? Photocopy the calendars and journals. Place one page in a
left-side page protector, then the transcription in the right-side page
protector. As the notebook is open, you can see Grandmother's work on one side
and a neatly typed word-for-word transcription on the other.
What program to use? Did you resize the text in your calendar program? If that
doesn't solve your problem, you'll have the same situation with other calendar
programs. I use Calendar Creator Plus and it has a lot of flexibility. But, why
not just use a word processing program for the transcribed pages? Then use your
Print Shop to design a cover page using one of the sign templates.
In any event, be sure to use Grandmother's spelling, phrasing, and abbreviations
just as she did in the original work.
Our family association printed such a book of the Journal of Conrad Weiser. It
was most effective in making you feel closer to the ancestor, to see his
handwriting on the left pages. In this case, we had the translation from the
German on the right side. It was printed in a 5" x 7" paperback, owing
to the size of the original.
What a treasure you are making for future generations!

Ultimate Family Tree
Posted by Nancy Hattaway Miller <hattaway@aol.com> on Fri, 01 Dec 2000, in response to Neat Things I've Read Lately - 29 Nov 2000, posted by Myrt on Wed, 29 Nov 2000
Myrt, as you note, Ultimate Family Tree has a healthy looking Web site at http://www.uft.com where they tout UFT 3.0. However, please note their announcement that they will no longer develop UFT beyond 3.0 and support for the program will only continue "through the next year" (from May 2000):
http://genforum.genealogy.com/uft/messages/4773.html
There is no indication on the message board that this was any kind of a hoax. The fact that they made this announcement only on a message board, did not inform their current users, and make no mention of it on their Web site while continuing to SELL version 3.0 was a crucial factor in my decision to switch from their sister program, Family Tree Maker, to The Master Genealogist.
