DUPLICATE NOTES & SOURCES IN PRINTOUTS submitted by winpeterson@netzero.net My dilemma is how to print a report which includes resources without having them repeat over and over. If I cite the same source for two different individuals or two different facts then I wind up with the same source repeated in my report. Probably if I would take the time I might be able to find the solution. I asked Warren Artley about this and he says he puts his sources in notes.
AND THE ANSWER IS: If a document mentions more than one ancestor, you must cite it as a source or write it up in notes for each individual mentioned. Its only fair. What if you only mentioned a census record for the head of household and not for each of the children in his home at the time? The record for the children would be incomplete -- and this would definitely show up if you print:
a family group sheet where the child in one family now a head of household with his own spouse and children
an individual summary report for that individual.
If you follow my advice, and create a report in PAF, send it to a FILE, instead of printing it off right away. Then you can edit the file in your word processing program. You just have to remember WHERE PAF saved the file when you asked it to prepare the report. In my case, WORD opened up the file immediately after I selected PRINT TO FILE and clicked the PRINT button.

GEDmark submitted by Pat Richley, dearmyrtle@aol.com This nifty little program will allow you to mark your name/address/city/state/zip/ etc. for each individual in your database before you send it out to someone. In my opinion, this might be even more useful for marking the incoming data. This is a free download from: http://www.progenysoftware.com/gedmark.html
"How
many times have you considered sharing your family
history research with others, but were hesitant to do so because your
authorship might be lost? GEDmark™, a new family tree tool created by
Progeny Software, solves this problem by giving you the satisfaction of
knowing your work has been safely marked with your author information."
NEWS
from our PAF Member-At-Large Newer members of the Manasota
PAFUsers Group may not know about our dear friend,
Chuck FitzGerald cdfitzg@dfnow.com. He
and his lovely wife Eileen have sold their home here in Florida to remain
full-time in their Pennsylvania digs, to be closer to the children. We get to
hear from him from time to time -- READ ON.
Wow!
I am really excited!
The web site listed below (in Ireland) has the full color version of the sketch of our 37 greats grandfather, Maurice FitzGerald, the invader of
Ireland in late 1169. http://www.pro.gov.uk/pathways/uk/ireland/irelandimage02.htm
The sketch is one of several which appear in the margin of the MS
by Maurice's sister Angharad's son, Girald de Barri, a priest who
followed his uncles to Ireland to learn what they had discovered there
when they accepted the challenge to help put King Dermot MacMurrough
back on his Leinster throne.
I have been trying to learn the colors by working through the National
Library of Ireland, and am still waiting for response to my plea there.
This would make a grand cover for a magazine article about the
adventure of the Cambro-Norman barons and knights and archers who
accepted the offer of lands in Leinster if they would help put
Dermot MacMurrough (banished King of Leinster), back on his throne
(which they did!)
Not many of us are able to find any sort of crude likeness of an
ancestor from so far into the past. Maurice was born about 1100 and
died in Ireland in 1176 after fulfilling the agreement to aid MacMurrough.
His several year effort is very well described in two documents which
have survived more than 800 years - his nephew's "book" "Expugnatio Hibernica", and the Old Norman poem of which the title
translates as "The Song of Dermot and the Earl".
I hope descendants of Maurice will be able to make a color print of the
old warrior who stands with a yellowish outfit over his chainmail
and a heavy sword partially drawn. What a great thing it will be to be
able to include a copy in the family history each of you is building!
Best regards and good luck!
